For my speed workout I decided to do some YASSO 800's . I've run into a number of athletes that have tried this in their training and their attempts to predict marathon race pace and many have had some success.
If you surf the net on the subject, you'll come up with a lot of people that poo-poo the idea of the predictive qualities of the method. But I tend to put those arguments in the same camp as other unrealistic or ignorant arguments that don't keep it all in perspective (many athletes are not literate from a science perspective). That's not to say that I have the science mastered - I don't, but I understand how to keep things in perspective when claims are made on training principles.

Rain...hard rain...plenty o' rain today. More tomorrow.
Looks like I'm going to be glad I own a treadmill at the house tomorrow. I don't want my hairdo to get wet running. Have mercy.
Actually I'm going to try and knock out a speed day. One good thing about speed workouts is that they are usually short and sweet. Well, I'm not really sure about the sweet part. Maybe more like short and hard. But at least they don't last very long.

I keep a copy of Jason Massie's training plan handy as he is also doing the Rocket City Marathon on December 12, 2009 as a Boston Qualifier. I find myself comparing what I laid out for myself vs. what he has laid out for himself.
With workouts like today, I try to keep things in perspective and remind myself of a need for patience. His plan was calling for a 20-miler at 8:10 pace. I love the way he builds in progressive overload on speed and endurance. For example, he would do progressive long runs like the following;
