Paul- FWIW, I believe my pace progression on the long runs is very unorthodox. But my main limiter in marathons has been leg cramps after mile 20. I believe they are caused by muscular fatigue. The fatigue is brought on by running a race pace that is tough, when I haven't done it enough in training. So this time I decided I needed many more hard, long run efforts in order to try and fatigue my muscles over and over so that they adapt. So we'll see whether I'm successful at doing that at RC. I've been trying to always do a mile or two at the end of the long run at sub race pace. Hopefully as I move closer to RC I can pull out more miles at the end and feel good.
